Symbolic play allows students to engage with items in endless ways, since these items have no particular purpose. In symbolic play, a simple chair can become a car for students to drive around accomplishing their chores. During this students should be the leaders of the activity and create, ideas, stories, and purposes for these items. This style of play promotes both creativity and collaboration between students, which in turn will create a more positive learning environment.

Teacher Considerations
Allow students to use their imagination while using items (items that do not have exclusively one purpose), since a cardboard box could become a rocket-ship or a store (their are endless possibilities). This process always students ownership over this activity, and becomes a tool for them to use while developing stories or other forms of play.
