Arts play has the potential to engage students creativity if executed and celebrated appropriately. Open-ended arts play allows students the opportunity to dream up the best thing they can with the materials in front of them. They aren’t following a set of steps to reproduce the perfect snowman, they’re picking the materials nesseccary to create the snowman that they imagined during a reading of their favourite winter book.

Teacher Considerations
Allow students to freely create, giving them the opportunity to explore and learn through doing. Cut and paste artwork has its place within the classroom (following instructions), but allowing students to create freely and willingly will allow them to have to explain their creation. This is an incredible learning tool, listing to the student explain what their creation is, and the steps/challenges they faced in this process.
